3 Quart Colander Every Home Should Have

One kitchen tool we all need is a colander, and I like having two sizes to work with, one large and one small. This 3 quart stainless steel colander from Pro Chef Kitchen Tools is perfect for my small colander. It does so much and is so easy to take care of.

The first thing I love about this colander is that it is made from stainless steel. That means it will not rust and it will hold up to many years of use and abuse. Let's face it, colanders go through a lot in their days! When I think of the things I have used my colanders for over the years, it's amazing any of them have lasted. LOL! So easy to wash too. It can be done by hand or go right in to the dishwasher.

This colander has slightly larger holes than I like, but they still are not too big to get clogged up or allow things to slip through. There are plenty to allow for good drainage. The bottom of the colander has a ring base to hold it steady in the sink or on the counter with no worry of it tipping over. I did notice using that if the base completely covers your drain that the liquid will not go down the drain. Since the colander is smaller, it is easy to move it off a little to one side to allow the liquid to drain out and go down the drain.

The handles of the colander are welded on and feel very secure. I can not imagine them ever coming loose. They feel nice an comfortable to hold on to as well. You can get a solid grasp of them to shake and pour from it without having to worry about the handles becoming loose and flimsy or your hands slipping.

This is the perfect size colander for making small batches of pasta, rinsing fruit and veggies before putting them away, and for tossing food scraps into for the compost pile. I like it and will be using it a lot!

The Perfect Small Strainer/Colander To Have

I think you all know how much I love kitchen gadgets and tools. Having good ones is important to me. One I use often is my strainer. It's in my sink all the time!

MagiKüchen has a wonderful strainer and I am so happy to have it now. The strainer is made of an ultra fine 18/8 stainless steel and is 8" in diameter. It's just the right size for rinsing and straining so many things.

To me this size is perfect. I can rinse all kinds of vegetables and strain a large number of thing easily. When I make jam I can strain seeds from the fruit and know that the fine mesh of the strainer will keep all the seeds, even tiny ones, from going through. Since it is stainless steel, it can handle heat really well.

The handle is a nice length too. It helps keep the whole thing balanced when it is full. It is also coated with a silicone or rubber (not sure which) to protect your hands from the heat of anything you might strain and it gives you a good, comfortable grip. It can also be hung up by the handle too.

The strainer has a good ring around the mesh to help hold the strainer in position over a pot. It also has a nice loop that helps with that too. The loop doubles as a hanger to store your strainer. I love having this, since I can place the strainer and have both hands free.

This strainer can be used in pots to help steam vegetables or to even fry things. The stainless steel will hold up to the high temperatures, and the handle will not get too hot to hold. I love that this thing is super versatile and a top quality product!

This Is The Best Colander I Have Ever Used

One of my kitchen gadgets that I use a lot and often take for granted is my colander. It's out in the sink more than in the cupboard. But I have learned that not all colanders are made or work the same way. Some really are much better than others.

The KUKPO 5-Quart Stainless Steel Colander is one that is much nicer than other colanders and I really like it a lot!

First the colander has plenty of holes in the thick stainless steel, so things drain fast from it. Less shaking and tipping and maneuvering to get all the liquid out. But the height of it is what I love a lot. It is not as high as any other colander I have had. When I first got it, I thought it would be too short for me to use and I didn't think it would hold as much. I was wrong. It holds a ton of stuff and the height is fantastic. It is a little wider than other colanders, but the angle of the sides is not as steep and makes the whole thing about the same size as the top/rim of it. Since it is made like that, things inside spread out more making it easier to get all the liquid out.

I love the handles too. Sometimes I have poured very hot things in my colanders and grabbed the handles too quickly, and burned my hands a little. The handles on the KUKPO colander are coated so you won't burn your hands. It is comfortable to grip too. The coating feels better than the metal handles would and I feel like I have a firmer grip on it too.

The base of the colander sits up on a nice ring, also made of stainless steel. It keeps things up high enough to drain well and to support the colander while it sits in the sink or on the counter. It also goes around the drain very well making things drain a lot faster and it keeps things from touching the sink.

It is super easy to clean out. The edges around the holes are not sharp and my dishcloth does not catch on them at all. Since there are so many holes in the colander and it is spread out a little more, things do not clump up as much in the bottom, so the holes there do not clog up and get a lot of food stuck in them. You can also wash it in the dishwasher.

This is the best colander I have ever had and I am sure it will hold up for a long time!

A Great Colander At A Great Price ~ Bellemain Mico-Perforated Stainless Steel Colander

I have several kitchen tools I use a lot and one is my colander. I think it's dirty more than it's clean I use it so much.

Recently I was sent the Bellemain Micro-Perforated Stainless Steel 5-Quart Colander. I can't remember the last time I had a new one, and I love this one.

Here's a little from the company first:

  • No more watching your spaghetti or rice slip through the holes. No slow or incompletely draining water. No worries about warping, scratching, rusting or tipping over. Whether you're boiling pasta, steaming vegetables or washing fruit, the Bellemain Stainless Steel Colander simply makes your life easier.
  • Micro Holes Keep Tiny Grains from Falling Through Less than 1/16" in diameter, the Bellemain's perforations prevent even cooked rice and orzo from going down the drain. And while you might think water would drain more quickly if the holes were larger, actually the opposite is true.
  • Closely Configured Holes Drain Water Faster Why does water go through mesh strainers so fast? Because there is less solid surface to slow it down. That's the principle behind the Bellemain's mesh-style perforations. The entire bowl, from the bottom to the rim, is perforated, so there's nowhere for water to get trapped.
  • Solid Ring Base Won't Tip Over The problem with colanders that have separate feet is that if one foot lands in the sink drain, the whole bowl tips over. The Bellemain's base is one solid circle of stainless steel that keeps the colander safely level. It also keeps your food elevated above the floor of the sink and whatever water hasn't yet gone down the drain.
  • Dishwasher Safe, 18/10 Stainless Steel Every part of the Bellemain is solid, practically indestructible stainless steel, so you can expect many years of trouble-free performance. When you've finished draining your cooked or washed food, just throw it in the dishwasher. What could be easier!
That's an entire 1 pound package of kale in the colander. It holds a lot and handles all of it well.

I love the ring base on it. My old one had three little feet that really did not sit up very high. The ring is a much larger surface to hold the colander safely still and higher than other colanders.
You can also see how small and abundant the holes are. Water and other liquids drain through quickly and it keeps smaller things from going through when you don't want them to.

The handles are very comfortable to hold and pick up with. Even when I have had 5 pounds of potatoes in it, the handles were enough to handle the weight and still feel like I had a secure hold on everything. They are also large enough for my guys to hold on to, and my grown up boys both have large hands.

This is a great colander and can hold up to any job you give it. So far I have strained broth from cooking turkey, drained boiling pasta, washed a lot of vegetables, and more. It's done a great job. Clean up is easy even when you don't have a dishwasher. I wanted to make sure it was easy to clean either way and I took a stiff brush to it and lightly went over the holes. Everything cleaned out completely and the colander is looking great after a lot of uses.
