The canvas bag is well made and thick material with a strong zipper. It has a little pouch or slit on the front help shut with Velcro, that has two cards inside. One is a list of everything inside of your kit and the other is a card that you can fill out in case of an Emergency, that allows you to put you personal information and emergency contact. Such as Name, blood type, medical conditions and allergies and giving instruction to those who may be trying to help you. On the back side of the bag there are two straps with Velcro so you can strap this on a backpack or other objects. Inside every thing has a label that is on the bag itself and then each item is individually wrapped in plastic baggies and some of those items like the antiseptic wipes are then wrapped in their original packaging.

Inside the kit you will not have to go from pocket to pocket to see where everything is because it is all labeled! These are not little taped ones either they are printed onto the material. Everything it comes with is perfect for a standard kit!

This Little Tool Could help Save Your Life

You may recall that there have been times I have mentioned things that you should keep on hand for emergencies. I truly believe you should be prepared all the time. No, I am not a crazy "the world is going to end" kind of person. I just believe you should do all you can to be able to survive in any kind of emergency. You never know when a flood or tornado may hit, or even a power outage.

One thing you should have with you all the time is a Magnesium Fire Starter, like this one from Survivor X.

A fire starter is just that, a tool that helps start a fire easily. It a small tool that can mean the difference between keeping warm or freezing. Carrying matches is handy, but they can get wet. Lighters are great, but they run out of fuel. A fire starter can be used anywhere and you can find things to lite pretty much anywhere too.

The tool is small, about the size of a pen, so it doesn't take up a lot of room. In fact it has a ring on one end that you could use to hang from a key chain. It has three sections to it, the striker, the magnesium rod, and a small compartment for tinder of some kind, like a piece of cotton swab in case you can't find tinder right away. The whole things is made to be water proof, so if you get wet, it won't! You would still be able to use it right away! That's pretty important is you want to survive in an emergency.

It's very easy to use the fire starter too. The directions are pictured on the back of the box so you don't have to wonder. First you scrape off the protective coating on the magnesium rod using the flat edge of the striker. Next, you place a small bit of tinder in a little pile and maybe a few leaves around it if you can find some. The small cotton swab that comes with the fire starter works great for that. Even a tiny wadded up piece of paper would work. The next step is to take the striker and using the serrated edge, strike it across the magnesium rod that is aimed at the tinder. You need to be a little forceful with this and I suggest practicing before you have to do this in an emergency. Once you get the hang of it, it is really easy and fast!

You may think you don't need to have something like this in your home or your vehicle, or even in a bug-out bag, but this is something you should have. It can save your life and the lives of the people you love! It doesn't cost a lot and it doesn't take up a lot of room. Well worth it in my book!

This Is Something Every Family Should Have At Least One Of

One thing that has always been very important to me is being prepared for emergencies. I learned so much growing up in the country from my family. We always had extra tools, blankets, and other supplies. You just never knew when you might need something or there might be an emergency.

A tool that was always in our trunk was an old army shovel. We used it for all kinds of things. But since those days, shovels like the army shovel, have been vastly improved to be even more that what we had way back when.

FiveJoy has a great shovel that will help in pretty much any kind of emergency you might run in to. Here's a short diagram that shows you a lot of what is a part of this little shovel.

There is more than the Magnesium Rod, Whistle, Tactical Knife, and Blade. There are actually 2 blades on the shovel as well as a saw. There is  very good length of paracord included and attached to the handle of the shovel. 

The shovel is made of heat-treated high carbon steel. This little thing is going to hold up for a long time. The handle is made of aerospace grade aluminum and treated with anodic oxidation technology that will give it stability. Believe me, this is a very well made product.

The whole thing comes in a sturdy canvas pouch with a pocket for the shovel with half of the handle folded down and a pocket for the rest of the handle. The actual shovel/blade has a similar canvas pouch over it. Both of the canvas pouches have Velcro straps to attach the shovel to a belt or a pack for easy carrying. There is also a nice adjustable strap that can be slung over your shoulder if you wanted to do that. The shovel pouch has two small Velcro closures to hold it securely in place, but both can be opened quickly while it is hanging on a belt so yo can pull the shovel out fast with one hand.

I was surprised at how light weight this is. It is very easy to use and carry. I strapped it on for a few hours to see how it felt, and it almost became unnoticeable after a while. Although this is something you could tuck into a pack if you want to, I would keep this out to be accessible fast. There are so many things this little shovel can do. The handle does take some practice to get used to moving it with ease. After a few tires it becomes much easier and faster. 

The handle sections unscrew easily and each part of the handle is easy to use. The whistle is super, super loud. Perfect to really get someone's attention. I think it is important for everyone who hikes or camps to learn the whistle code. I learned it years ago.

This shovel is actually a shovel, hoe, axe, hammer, auto emergency escape hammer, saw, knife, wire cutter, bottle opener, fire-starter magnesium, whistle, and it also comes with paracord that can be used for a large number of things itself. You should try each of those things out before you need them in an emergency so you know what you are doing. The last thing you want is to be in a situation where you need to act quickly and you are struggling with how to operate your equipment!

Yes, the shovel is a lot smaller than our old army shovel we had, but it does so much more and is a much better tool to have in an emergency, to just go camping, or to keep in your car for emergencies. This is something I think every family should have at least one of. Ours is going into our emergency kit we have prepared.

A Lot Can Fit Into One Small Bag

How often do you think about a first aid kit? Probably not that much, but it is something we all need and think about it a lot when we really need it.

Protect Life has a small, yet amazingly filled First Aid Kit that would be perfect for pretty much any situation. What I really like about this kit is how small it is. The bag is only 7½" x 5" x 2" and weighs a mere 15.2 ounces. It's small, but holds a lot!

That's a lot of stuff in one small first aid kit. There is enough to handle a camping or hiking trip, to keep around the house, in the office, in your vehicle, and more. It's small enough to not take up a lot of room in you vehicle, a desk drawer or your backpack. Some of the things in it I had not thought of having in a first aid kit, like a glow stick, but now it makes sense to me seeing it in one.

The material the bag is made of is a durable canvas, although it is not waterproof. I will probably stick it in a ziplock bag to protect it from the elements. There are 4 pockets, three of which are see through so you can find what you need quickly. There is a double zipper on the bag and two small handles for carrying. Actually with everything that is in it, you would think there is no more room for anything else, but there is. I plan on putting in a small flashlight, matches, and some pain reliever when we go places. I love that the bag has the extra room for a few more things to personalize it for your specific needs.

This is a very good first aid kit and it has everything you really need in an emergency until you can get to some place for help.It's a good investment to make!
