Need To Magnify and Illuminate Your Work?

As a crafter, I am always looking for things that help me work more efficiently and that help me do the best I can creating things. Also, as the wife of someone who has limited vision, I am always looking for things that will help my husband see better and more clearly. So when I got the LED Magnifying Lamp by OKOA, I was excited. It is something both of us will use!

The lamp is 21" tall, including the lamp head, and has a flexible gooseneck. It can bend in any direction up or down, side to side, to get the lamp head in just the right position for what you need to see.

I love the clamp base. The light can sit on any flat surface just fine by itself in the weighted base, but you can take it out of the base to have it clamped to the edge of almost any surface. The clamp holds the lamp securely where you put it. My desk has a 1" thick top and the clamp worked really well on it.

Another cool thing about the base of the lamp is a slot to hold your cell phone. You can put your phone on the base and see directions online to do something while actually following along. Very handy!

I was impressed with how well the magnification works. It really does make it easy to see things clearly, and with the lens being as big as it is, you don't have to move what you are working on around to be in just the right place as much.

The lamp comes with a USB cable that you can plug right into your computer or into an adapter to charge in an outlet. The cable is nice and long, so you can adjust it a lot better than some cables that come with electronics. I haven't figured out how long the light stays charged yet, but so far, quite a while!

The light has three levels of brightness, so you can adjust to it your need and your light sensitivity. It's also a pure white light, which helps keep down eye strain. When you are working on a project close up like that. Eye strain can be a serious problem. Having a pure white light makes a big difference. To adjust the light it just takes a small tap on the "switch".

I am super pleased to have this lamp and I know both my husband and I will be using it a lot. We highly recommend it to you!

Helping Hands And Magnification For All Kinds Of Specialty Crafting

Some crafting projects and home repairs can take several hands more than you have. And when you need those extra hands they often are not home to help you.

That's where something like the Kitclan LED Light Desktop Magnifier comes in handy. This is a small tool that can help you hold things while you work on them.

The large magnifying lens that is 3X, which is sufficient for most purposes, makes it easy to see what you are doing up close. The neat thing is you can work on things without the magnifier too. It swivels up and out of the way for use with just the extra "hands" part. There are two adjustable points on the neck of the Magnifier so you can adjust the magnifier as needed. The lens can also be rotated 360 degrees.

I really like that there is a small LED light bulb to really help you see what you are working on. The light works by plugging it in with the included USB cord. I found the cord to be way too short, so I have replaced it with one I already had here at home that is 5 times longer. Now I can use the magnifier pretty much anywhere I want to without having to worry about a tightly stretched cord. You can use 3 AAA batteries instead of the USB cord, but the light is not as bright then.

The alligator clips that come with the magnifier, hold things tightly so you don't have to worry about things slipping while you are working. They swivel around 360 degrees and move side to side to reach towards or away from each other depending on the size of the item you are working on.

This magnifier is great for small detail work while making jewelry, working on electronics, making fishing lures, and more. There is also a small tray at the bottom to hold bits for you while you work.

Now I will tell you that most of this unit is plastic, so you need to be careful while using it, especially with anything hot that might melt the plastic or from dropping it. For example, the coil to hold your soldering iron. The end of it touches the plastic so you need to adjust it some before letting a hot soldering iron be put in it. If it was made from better material I would be very excited about it, but since it is just plastic, not so much! It is still a fairly good product.

Helpful For Many More Things Than We Tought

We recently got a product that I thought Rick would enjoy testing out for me. So here is his review for you. Oh and pay close attention to the end of the review. it's worth the read!

From Rick:
This HMFiva LED Handheld Magnifying Glass Set has three interchangeable lenses and a built-in light.

I'll first cover the “down side” to it. The packaging and instructions omit important information, such as contact information in case of defects. There isn't even a manufacturer's name given, although I suspect this is made in China, since the instructions are printed in Chinese and awkward English. Example: after inserting the batteries, one is to “Confirm the switch push plate and the switch remains before or after the agreement, close the battery cover.” Fortunately, the diagrams and a quick look at the device are adequate for determining all you'll need to know.

The three lenses are 2.5X, 5X, and 16X. The first was the most useful for me to enlarge text. The stronger two lenses make small details [example: the tiny screws in eyeglasses] much more easily seen. The 16X lens actually seemed too powerful for any job I might face. All three lenses seemed free of distortion.

The lenses are quickly and easily interchanged, and stay firmly in place. A soft bag is provided for lens storage, along with a small cleaning cloth.

The LED light, built into the handle, is very bright and illuminates the object you are looking at without stray light shining directly into the eye. It can be switched on and off with the same hand that is holding the magnifying unit. With no lens attached, this can even be used as a flashlight! The light requires three AAA batteries, not included, and easily installed.

Practical, compact, easy to use and store, I would recommend this product – as long as you are willing to follow the manufacturer's suggestion, “Please do not use gasoline, alcohol, banana water or chemical contact magnifier.”
