I recently had the chance to try out an interesting product; Yacon Syrup. I had never heard of a thing like this before and was really curious about it. It is 100% Pure Raw Organic Yacon, which is a plan,t kind of like sweet potato.

Let me give you a little from Life & Food first:

When I first opened the bottle was was overwhelmed by the smell. It's not a bad smell, it's just heavy. I wasn't expecting that. I poured out some of the very thick liquid into a teaspoon measure and popped it in my mouth. Well I was in for more surprise. It reminded me of my Mom giving me Geritol way back when, or eating black strap molasses right from the jar. It's a little sweet and very strong and earthy. The taste is something I think you have to acquire, but I learned you can mix it with tea and coffee or use it as a sweetener for foods. I mixed it with a little maple syrup for my pancakes and liked it very much that way. It's pretty good in coffee too.

What I did like though, is that it does help. I noticed that my digestive system was doing much better within a couple of days. I wasn't hungry for sweet foods and my meals were filling me up quicker. I can't say that my energy level was a whole lot better, but it was good to know that less food was filling me up and that my body was processing that food really well. As you get older, that's something you appreciate.

I think one thing that is important to me is knowing that it is a very helpful antioxidant. Since I have serious problems with my immune system, strengthening it is a significant thing. Finding foods and supplements high in antioxidants makes a big difference for me. Yacon Syrup fits that very well!

And good news, the more I used it, the less the taste bothered me. Like I said, an acquired taste. I think this is something that would help a lot of people, like my husband who is diabetic. It keeps his sugar at a more consistent level. I love that!
