 {What My Husband Thought About The Book}

D. E. Stevens' "Resurrect" features Josh Logan, a heroic character given a second chance at living and a mission which can determine the fate of all life on Earth. His mysterious benefactor is a "higher power" whose identity is not revealed. Logan's mission involves recruiting a team to stop a meteor, thus far undetected by any earthly government, from striking our planet. His benefactor has "resurrected" him in a body at the peak of human physical potential. Logan is the intellectual and physical equal of Captain America, but certainly not as self-assured. He is not at all sure he is up to the mission he has been given. Stevens has created very believable characters. Many thrillers have poorly imagines minor characters. That is not the case here. Logan has the ability to communicate with the "higher power" and spends some time seeking answers to who [Who?] he is speaking, the origin and nature of the universe, and other philosophical/theological matters. Stevens resists the temptation which leads so many authors to give absolute answers [and "preach" to the reader}. Enjoyable for the reader, but frustrating to Logan. The question which was not really answered to Logan's, or my, satisfaction, was why a benefactor such power -- detect and project the course of the meteor, resurrect Logan, communicate telepathically, other seemingly supernatural wonders -- didn't just redirect the meteor without enlisting human aid. Perhaps Stevens plans to give us the answer in the sequel, "Conceive". Overall, a good read, a thriller with a protagonist more clean-cut and more morally complex than is common.
