The Only Can Opener You'll Need

Can openers are fun and they're fun to watch. Let me explain why.

TORO has made a really nifty can opener that makes it easy to open any can, from small to rally large, and so many more things.

Attaching this smooth-edge can opener to cans was simple. That may sound trivial, but many can openers require several tries just to get them seated correctly. The handle design makes it easy to hold in place while opening the can. The small indented ridges help you get and keep a good grip on the handle as you turn it. The crank is designed well, putting little strain on the hand, and the cut was perfect. This being a smooth-edge opener, the lid just pops right off, no sharp edges.

On the part of the handle with the turn crank, there is a small indentation. That little bit helps you open the tabs on soda cans. it slides under the tab and lifts them up very easily. This is a good feature, especially for people who have trouble with their hands

The other end of the can opener, opposite the can opening cutter is quite useful in opening all kinds of things. This make this tool a real time-saver – no more searching for different openers that clutter up the “gadget drawer,” this opener does it all.

The very end of the opener has a curved point. This is perfect for opening pull-tab cans, like tuna, cat or dog food, and more. it really makes it very easy and quick.

The other features it has is a bottle cap opener on one side, and flip it over and it is an opener for 2 liter bottles or other bottles like ketchup.

The opener feels sturdy, like it would last a long time, but it might be good to have a spare, because you wouldn't want to be without this tool for a minute. We really like it a lot!

It Works, But It's Loud And Slow

One thing that is not fun to do is to admit that you can not do the things you used to, and it could be because of any number of reasons, but you just can't. Getting arthritis in my hands was not something i wanted to happen to me, but it has and I am learning to live with it daily. Part of that is finding ways to keep my hands from hurting and cramping up.

One thing I got to try out (and so did my husband) was the Bartelli Soft Edge Automatic Electric Can Opener. This is one of those neat can openers that you set on top of the can, push the button, and let it do it's thing. It operates with 4 AA batteries (which are not included, a negative in my book). It is pretty neat the way it works. The can opener does not actually cut the can, what it does is loosen the seal of the top of the can from the sides of the can and keep the lid on the can opener with a magnet. So the lid just comes off and there are no sharp edges. You can actually place the lid back on the can to cover something up if you want to.

The can opener does a really good job opening all kinds of cans, small, large and everything in between. The only real problems I have with it is it is very loud. In fact I was quite surprised at how loud it was. It's not so bad with a small can, but if you have to open a #10 size can, that's a lot of noise. And this is where the second problem I have comes in. it's very slow. If you are opening one of those #10 size cans, it takes a very long time for the can opener to make it's way around and you have all that noise to go along with the wait. Not bad if you have just one can, but on chili night, well the sound and the wait was no fun at all!

We decided that even though it works okay, we just did not like the noise that came along with it or the wait for it to do it's thing. Plus sometimes it would not stop going around the can even though the lid was completely off. It just kept running around and around until we touched the on off button enough times to make it stop.

You might have better results with it than we did, and I hope so cause I love the idea! You can purchase one of the Bartelli Soft Edge Automatic Electric Can Openers HERE! It comes in several very pretty colors!
