This is the first time I have read a book by Cara C. Putman. I have a thing about historical books, fiction and non-fiction, so this book intrigued me from the start! it is set in one of my favorite time periods, WWII. What also thrilled me was the tie-in with the Monuments Men, a group of non-soldier soldiers whose mission was to retrieve the many great works of art that the Nazi's stole all over Europe. It's a group of men who are seldom talked about in history.
But the story is much more than a young woman seeking her father and getting involved with the Monuments Men. The story is deep with family ties and emotional connections. Rachel is seeking her father only to find her relationship with her heavenly Father to grow strong and deep through the process. The suspense and excitement throughout the book grabbed and kept my attention. Cara's descriptive talent is wonderful and her details on history very much appreciated!
I think this is a book anyone who enjoys historical novels will find a winner!!
She found peace in a time of war.
Desperate to save her dying mother, an American woman accepts her newspaper's assignment to travel to Italy where she takes photographs dangerously close to the front lines during World War II. But Rachel's real motive in this journey is to find the father she never knew, an artist she hopes can offer the comfort and support both she and her mother need to survive at such a desperate time.
In her quest, Rachel becomes involved with what will become the Monuments Men effort to save great monuments and works of art from the Third Reich. Soon enough she will find more than she ever imagined---in war, in love, and in God.
