Dwelling Places Is A Sweet Devotional I Highly Recommend

Dwelling Places
Sometimes one of the nicest things to have is a devotional book, one that reaches you were you are and you can really relate to.

Dwelling Places is just such a book. The book is divided into four sections, one for each season of the year and seasons in your life. I really enjoyed the section for Fall. Not only is it my favorite time of year, but Lucinda used that time of year to focus on Dwell. Often I let my life get the best of me and I forget to dwell on the things that are really important.

Each of the devotions starts with Scripture that is printed there for you to read. It then goes on to talk about those verses and how they are important in your life too. But she doesn't leave you there, she brings it back to your personal life. She asks you questions and gets you to focus on what is truly important, not just for a moment, but all day. It's very refreshing!

I think this is a wonderful devotional book and will be sharing it with others!

About the book:

Do you long for serenity and refuge, peace and hope? Are you seeking a deeper spiritual life through a closer relationship with God?

If you’re tired of dwelling in busyness and noise, then perhaps one word a day can change your life. Award-winning author Lucinda Secrest McDowell knows that if you spend time each day turning to God’s Word for wisdom and guidance, your faith can flourish and grow.

Through short and inspiring readings, McDowell unpacks a single word—such as mercy, beauty, gratitude, or grace—to reveal a biblical blessing or challenge relevant to where you are. Full of stories and illustrations to empower you to live the word you have just read, each devotional ends with a benediction, written as if God were speaking directly to you.

These “dwelling places” that offer the joy of God’s promise and presence cover four seasons: fall, Advent, Lent, and summer. Whether in the midst of busy holiday schedules, holy days, ordinary moments, or changing seasons, a deeper faith can be as simple as a single word.

We All Have Hurts From Life ~ Come Empty Deals With That

Come Empty

This is a simple devotional book that can be done pretty much by anyone. The devotions are short, but  point you to something you can think about as you go about your day. Since there is not a human who has not suffered and dealt with pain, whether physical, emotional, or spiritual, there is something in this book for you.

Each devotion starts with "Your Heart's Cry", a situation you find yourself in, feelings, emotions, physical pain, a struggle you are dealing with. It is followed with "His Reply", addressing specifically how you can let go of that pain and frustration by focusing on what it is God can offer you and work through you in your daily life. It's a way to refocus your thought life. There is a section at the end "Going Deeper Questions" followed with "A Simple Prayer".

Some of the devotions are deep and thought provoking, but most of them I found rather simple and basic. It would be a good book for a new Believer who is just starting to get a grasp on how God can work amazing things in their life. For me, I would like the devotions to be a lot deeper and more of a specific focus on a passage of Scripture.

About the book:
When a water vessel is filled with dirt and stones, it cannot be used to quench a thirst. But, when this vessel is emptied, there is an opportunity to fill it until it overflows with fresh, cool, life-giving water. Water that quenches. Refreshes. Soothes.

Our souls are the same: filled with fear, doubt, and disappointment. Running over with unanswered prayers and lingering questions. When we empty the mess of our lives in the presence of God, we’re offered an invitation to come. An invitation that allows us to come empty – so that we can be filled until we overflow.

Come Empty: Pour Out Life’s Hurts and Receive God’s Healing Love guides you through fifty days of experiencing the fullness of God’s love and His ability to overcome life’s hurts. Each day, you will receive assurance of God’s presence in your difficult situations. Each devotion gives new vision and perspective when you’re hindered by emotional blind spots, and leads you to experience God’s peace and wholeness. When His invitation is accepted, He will set your captive mind and heart free to live fully by His grace. The question is not if you will get an invitation. The question is, will you come?
