I have to admit right up front that I have not been a big fan of dryer sheets! That may seem like an odd thing to start with at the beginning of a review for them, but it's true. I always thought they were too 'smelly'! It was just too much and living with a man who does not like a lot of perfume or extra fragrance made it easy for me to just not use them.
Things have changed!! I love the new Purex Fabric Softener Dryer Sheets! They are not at all what my little brain thought fabric sheets were like. When I received my sample box to try from Purex Insiders I was very pleasantly surprised.
The fragrance is wonderful! I love how nicely it leaves our clothes soft and static free, and leaves behind a light smell that lasts! It's not strong or too heavy.
I've tried them out on pretty much everything (except my husband's clothes) and it has not let me down. When I get out of the shower the towels smell so good and are so nice and soft to the touch. Even when I open the cupboard the towels are in there is a light fragrance that greets you. It's very inviting.
The dryer sheets are available in two fragrances:
Mountain Breeze
Sweet Lavender.
I tried out the Sweet Lavender, but when I was out shopping I took the time to smell the Mountain Breeze and it is just lovely!
A major good thing about the dryer sheets is that they repel pet hair! This is a wonderful thing for me with having a Newfoundland in the house He sheds like crazy all year round!!
But I didn't stop with my clothes trying these out. For years I have known about different ways you can use dryer sheets and I tried a few of those too!
One of the best ways I use them is around my house to help fight odors. I have all men in my house, including the two dogs!! (Oh well the cat is female, but she's not too smelly!!)
I love putting the Purex Dryer Sheets under and behind the cushions of our couch. The fragrance lasts a long time and every time someone sits down, moves or gets up the fragrance is released. It's really nice and I know the sheets won't hurt the fabric. That's a win/win!!
But the best way around the house (other than in the laundry room) is by making your own fabric/room refresher. It's really simple. You need an old spray bottle (shhhh, I used the "other" guys empty bottle for this), 2-4 dryer sheets, rubbing alcohol, and water.
- Step 1. Put 2-4 dryer sheets (depending on how strong you want the scent) into the spray bottle. I used 3.
- Step 2. Add 1 tsp. rubbing alcohol (to distribute scent and water)
- Step 3. Fill the spray bottle with warm water.
- Now, just shake to distribute and spray on your fabrics, furniture, curtains, carpets, and whatever else you want to smell nice. It's amazing and works great at a fraction of the cost!! (thanks Stephanie Rutlegde for the recipe!!)
One of the most odd ways you may think I used them is to make some greeting cards. Yep, cards from dryer sheets! Unfortunately I did not have any I had made left to show you. Silly me sent them all off to friends. But I did find an awesome example and a site that teaches all about how to make them. Believe me, when friends and family get these in the mail they love it!! Just click the picture of the card above to be taken to the how-to instructions!
But there are tons of other ways to use Purex Fabric Softener Dryer Sheets around your house.
- Put them in vents. As the air flows by them it will release some of the fragrance.
- Place them in pillowcases, especially the lavender. It is calming and relaxing.
- They can repel mosquitos! That's a very good thing!
- Under the seats of you car to keep it fresh smelling.
- Inside suitcases that are stored for long periods of time.
- Under the fitted sheet on a bed.
The list could go on and on. There are tons of uses for dryer sheets and when you have ones that smell as nice as the Purex ones I'm sure you will come up with some yourself!
