Hurricane Sandy Hit Northern Indiana

I am sure many of us have been concerned about the effects of Hurricane Sandy for the East coast and the millions of people affected by it. But unfortunately it is affecting much more than just there. Certainly not as bad as there, but in ways that none of us have seen before!

I live very close to the shore of Lake Michigan in Indiana. Going there is something I look forward to doing every year. But going there this time absolutely shocked me! I could not believe what the waves and wind  were like. Standing about 100 yards from the edge of the water I took a short video. The whole time the water and the sand were pelting my face and felt like little shards of glass. Not fun at all!! Seeing this, though is a once in a lifetime thing.

In the video I was describing a few things, but you can hardly hear my voice. I tried to show you where we can usually see the skyline of Chicago across the lake form us. I also showed you my oldest son walking a little closer to the waters's edge, which he wishes now he didn't do. Neither of us could breathe very well with all the wind and it almost knocked me off my feet once with one big gust. This was a sight I will never forget! Just getting to the beach was tough in some spots. The sand had blown up over the road and in some spots we drove through about a foot of it.

After being there it reminded me of how much more the people out East are going through, such a tough time for them. It's a  very good reason to keep praying for them. I hope all of you are safe today! I am thankful for my safety and that of my family too!

So here's my video:

  1. It is absolutely insane! I can't even start to imagine how crazy the winds and rain must have been for all the residents along the East coast. Your video is a good testament to the powerfulness of Sandy and it goes to show how Nature is powerful. My thoughts and prayers are really with everyone who's been affected by the storm.

  2. We live in Rhode Island and all my family is in DC! We are okay. Glad you are too. We actually managed better with Sandy than with Irene last year (that was really bad)!
