The Best Smelling Laundry Detergent EVER!!!

I am beyond thrilled to tell you about a new laundry detergent that has been released from Purex!! As a baker I was even more thrilled. Nothing beats the fragrance of a house when you have been baking. So Purex, being a leader in the industry, bottled that fragrance up so you can enjoy it every time you was your clothes and pull them out to wear!

Yep.....they have introduced Cookie Scented Purex!! I love it. I have to say that I love the whole Purex line a lot, have for many years!! But this has just sealed the deal for me. The fragrance really is just like you are baking cookies. My husband thinks it is wonderful since he is especially fond of cookies. Can't even begin to tell you how many times he has come home and smelled what he thought had been me baking just to find out it was a candle or something similar. But now he can enjoy it every time he pulls a clean shirt out of the drawer to wear!
It's just like the regular scented or unscented Purex when it comes to the quality of cleaning. How could it be anything different? Your clothes come out looking amazing and now smelling amazing, although I have to wonder how this will affect my diet in the future! LOL!!

Haven't seen it in the stores yet? Don't give up! I'll keep you posted on the store release date as soon as I have one from Purex!

Oooh I would like to emphasize that in no way should it be suggested or implied that Purex Laundry detergent has anything to do with baking or cooking. Purex Laundry Detergent is not for consumption. Safety first!!

I received this information as a part of the Purex Insiders from Purex. I was in no way compensated for this post or review!

Moisture Can Be Simple!

I don't know about any of you for sure, but I have a terrible time with dry patches on my face. I struggle with it all the time!! So I am always on the look out for a good and reasonably priced moisturizer.

Recently SheSpeaks sent me a new to this country (US) moisturizer called Simple. It's from the UK and is a very popular product there. Now I will admit that I tend to think that a really good moisturizer that is going to really help my dry skin has to be thick and creamy. I'm guessing it is just from past experience with products. Simple Hydrating Light Moisturizer is by far not thick. It is light, and goes a long way. I was surprised at how well it absorbs into my skin and leaves it feeling smooth and not heavy or sticky like some moisturizers can. It also has very little 'smell' to it and I love that! I really dislike how many moisturizers have heavy fragrances to them. Yuk!
The neat thing about the Simple brand is that they specialize in products for sensitive skin. That's important to me. I do react to some things, but not most. Knowing I didn't have to worry about how my skin would respond to the product was wonderful! Simple has no dyes, artificial perfumes or harsh irritants that can upset your skin. It's also available at Walgreens. Love that! So I know if I want to get more it will be available locally and at a good price! That's very important to me.

As far as how well it worked, well not too bad. I wouldn't say it is the answer I need for my dry patches, but I do like having a light moisturizer to use. I think during the summer it will really be nice to have under my makeup. I hate a heavy feeling of anything on my face when it is hot out! But I do think that this is not the moisturizer I will be using all the time. I need something with a little more umph to it, something I know will conquer those dry patches. I did find out that they do have a Replenishing Rich Moisturizer, so I will be looking to try that.

I received a free sample from SImple & SheSpeaks. I was not compensated for my review.
All opinions expressed here are my own.

To Color Or Not To Color, That Is The Quetion!!

Can you believe I have NEVER colored my hair? I get asked all the time why I never have.I think it is just that with having 3 feet of it the effort to color it seems, well way to much! I did check one time in a salon about coloring and perming it. They wanted $350 and that was 5 or more years ago. Eegads!!! Are they serious??!!

Well Nice 'n Easy has a new product out that I am seriously considering trying. My husband thinks I am nuts, but my hair has started loosing the vibrancy and luster it used to have when I was younger. I miss that and with so much hair I think it is really noticeable.
Here's what Nice 'n Easy has to say about their new product:
"New Non-Permanent Hair Color from Nice 'n Easy lets you date a new hair color before you commit. It gradually washes out within 28 shampoos so you can flirt with a handsome new shade...or two...or three."

Now that to me sounds like a great way to try something out for the first time. I'll admit the thought of trying a color and then not being happy with the way it looks frightened me a bit. I've heard and seen way too many disaster stories! Something non-permanent like this seems a lot less intimidating.  And I think it would be something my husband could deal with. He's never been in favor of me coloring my hair in any way shape or form. Gracious he doesn't even want me to trim it yet alone do anything else to it!!

So you might want to check into this neat new product. And if I decide to go ahead and try it you better believe I will be taking before and after photos to share with you!!

I received the factual information here from Vocalpoint. The opinions expressed here are my own.

My Favorite New Dessert!!!

I LOVE to bake. Sometimes I think I should have gone to culinary school to become a professional pastry chef. As it was, I was fortunate enough to work for a small gourmet coffee shop and I was their head baker.  I loved it. It gave me a chance to experiment with some slightly more exotic to me recipes (mainly because I couldn't afford some of the ingredients on my own!). I loved getting customer reactions. My specialty became cheesecake, you know the kind that is 3 feet thick and two bites sends you over the moon.!!

Baking is still a joy to me. There is just something about mixing everything up and waiting for it finish, smelling the wonderful aromas wafting from the oven. Yum! I am always on the lookout for a new favorite treat to make my family and friends, and any odd stranger or two who is brave enough to sample something! One of the things I am really focusing on now are simple, and fast, yet really good recipes. Well I found one and I want to share it with you!! Years ago I was a mix snob, but lately I have been enjoying how easy they are to incorporate into lots of recipes. This is the most recent one I found that has made a big and favorable debut at our house.

Mini Upside Down Pineapple Cakes

1 can (20 oz.) crushed pineapple
1/3 c butter or margarine, melted
2/3 c brown sugar
12 maraschino cherries, cut in half
1 pkg. (18.25 oz.) yellow cake mix
Drain the pineapple, reserving the juice. I squish mine through a sieve to get every drop out I can.
Stir together the melted butter and brown sugar. Evenly divide the mixture into muffin cups that have been sprayed with nonstick cooking spray. This will be approximately 1 tsp per cup. Place the cherries in the center of the brown sugar mixture.
Evenly divide the pineapple over the sugar mixture and around the cherries.
Prepare the cake mix according to the directions, replacing the amount of water called for with the reserved pineapple juice and water. Evenly pour the batter, about 1/4 c, into muffin cups being careful not to disturb the cherry or pineapple.
Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes or until toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cool for 5 minutes. Loosen edges with a sharp knife. Place a cookie sheet over the whole muffin pan. Flip over and all the muffins will fall out. if any pineapple sticks slightly, and it most likely will, just remove it from the pan and replace on the muffin. Serve and enjoy!! Makes 24 servings!

I can honestly say these have become a huge hit at our church. They are just the right size to go with coffee and just enough dessert after a meal. My family loves them too!! I've made so many now I have lost count. In fact my poor muffin pans have been through overload and really need to be replaced!! LOL!!

Thanks to Dole for this amazing recipe! I found it in a magazine and just knew it would be fun and easy to make. I am thrilled with it! Hope you will be too. Enjoy!

Do You Love To Talk As Much As I Do???

I am admitting it. I love to talk. Living in a house full of men (even the dogs are guys!) leaves me with little wiggle room for talking. Guys just don't like to chat about everything and nothing. They tend to be straight to the point and that's it. So I am often looking for avenues to be able to chat freely! Well it's not actual 'talking', but I do get to chat about pretty much everything and anything on Crowdtap! I love it!!
What's Crowdtap?  It's a web site that hosts discussions about all kinds of topics. They ask questions and then you get to answer them and see what everyone else has said too. You also get to comment on others answers and share thought with each other. It's really nice to hear others views on things. Right now I am in a discussion about Spring Fashion. Other times it has been about candy, Christmas, different decorations, health matter, all kinds of things.

Here's what Crowtap's Platform is:
"Crowdtap is the Influencer Marketing platform, enabling leading brands to easily identify, activate and manage their influential consumers for real-time insights and powerful online and offline peer-to-peer marketing."

Basically what that means is that companies use what people say on Crowdtap to help develop their products and services.  Lots of times you can even test out products for them or even have a party in your home similar to a House party. it's a lot of fun. Oh and did I mention you earn things for yourself, like gift cards!! AND you also earn money for a charity. They have a great list of charities you can choose from and while you earn, your charity earns. How cool is that?!

So what are you waiting for? Come join today and have a chat with me a lots of other close friends!!

Me a Morning person? Are You Serious???

Good Tuesday morning!!I am very much looking forward to what this day brings me. It's a busy day, but a day that will be full of fellowship and service.

I'm starting out with this great clip I got from fellow blogger Ellen Lafleche-Christian (Confessions of an Overworked Mom). She posted it last night on Facebook and I just had to share it. This is so me!! Anyone who knows me is aware that I am nothing like a morning person. In fact I can do my best work starting after 10 PM. I've always been like this. To this day I remember struggles with my Mom about going to bed. I'm pretty sure she still remembers them too! Poor Mom!! Now where is my first cup of coffee???

First I am going to our weekly Bible Study. It's taught by my dear friend Sharon. She's an amazing lady! I always learn something from her. We're studying I Peter. The lessons are designed to take a week or two, but we have had so many good discussions that they take anywhere from 3 to 5 weeks to finish. It's been good!

After that we have a work day planned. Our work days are for the group in our church called LMS (Ladies Missionary Society). We do all kinds of things to help out the missionaries we support financially from our church (and some we don't but just want to help). It's always such a blessing to provide special things for them and to encourage them in the work they do. I know from experience as a former missionary how much it means when you are on the field and people provide some of the little extras and creature comforts for you.

One of the neatest things we do is simply write letters. Seems so little and insignificant, but let me tell you it means the world to people out on the field day in and day out! It's a small dose of home and a big dose of knowing there are people who really care about you and your family and what you are doing. Our letters are simple in content, usually just chit-chat. We write anything that comes to mind from the weather to what a kid did in school that day or even a silly joke. My husband and I used to receive similar letters from a church that supported us (Thanks Argos Bible Church!) and it was always so neat to hear what was going on in people's lives. I even got some awesome recipes that I still use today from those letters!

Another and very significant thing we do for our missionaries is provide them with a home away from home. Our small church has a 4 bedroom apartment that is fully furnished and equipped and ready to move in to. It is such a joy to have our missionaries and their families stay with us. I love being a hostess for the "Bed & Breakfast"! We have had people from all over the world stay here and have had some sweet fellowship with them. All the ladies of the church help keep it clean and help make the beds up and stock the cupboard with food for the missionaries. We even try to provide some extra little things that are personal to them to make their stay even more enjoyable, anything from a favorite movie to watch to a toy box loaded with fun! Some of the countries these missionaries have come from are England, Japan, Argentina, Ecuador, Mexico, Papua New Guinea, Brazil, South Africa, France, Ethiopia, & Poland. What a joy it has been to spend time with them and to learn so much about the cultures they live in now. We often get to share meals with them since we live right next door, and I can't tell you how much fun that has been, especially fitting the one family who had 8 children in my small kitchen! What a fun day that was!

But something saddens me when I think about this. After talking to several other Pastor's Wives I have found out that many churches no longer have groups like our LMS. How very, very sad! The reason they give is because society has changed and missionaries don't need the things they used to in years past. True, society has changed, but there is still much we can do to encourage them and support them in more ways than just financially. It may take some creativity on our part but the end result of making the lives of people overseas doing such difficult and hard work a little easier in any way is worth the effort. All we have to do is speak up and ask the missionaries what it is we can do to help. Most are not afraid to tell you! And it shows them that you really care and that they are not out there feeling alone and forgotten (speaking from experience here!).

So my challenge to you today is to find some way, anyway you can to help out a missionary or even a local organization you support. Even a short note of thanks for what they do day in and day out means a lot. Gracious even a note to your child's teacher thanking them for what they do would mean the world!

What will you do today to encourage and support someone?

I'm Loving Our Taxes This Year!!!

Yeah, I know, that sounds funny! Some would say for me to say that means I'm not in my right mind, but let me explain and I think you'll agree with me.

For many years now my husband and I have lived in a sweet parsonage that is provided to us with utilities (water, electric, gas) free of charge. It's a package deal with my husband's salary from the church. We love the house, but this has been the first time in our years of ministry that we have lived in a parsonage. We had no idea all that living in one entailed, especially to our taxes.

According to Uncle Sam and the IRS living in this sweet little house of ours is considered a perk, a bonus, and that means we have to pay taxes on that bonus. Actually it is considered income, like we physically were given cash. The cost of those taxes on this bonus is based on a few things like the fair market rental value of the property and the cost of the utilities for the property. I thought living near Lake Michigan was such a wonderful thing until Uncle Sam explained it differently to me. Since we live so close to the lake (aprox 1/2 mile) and some major tourist attractions the fair market rental value of the house is much higher than if we lived even 1 mile farther inland.

All that to say that when all the numbers are added up it almost doubles the amount of my husband's salary paid by the church. Please don't get me wrong, I am not complaining. I understand how it all works and why it does, it's just rough. The reason it is rough is because depending on what new tax law has been passed or changed what we owe the government can be pretty significant. Yes, I did say owe, and a lot! It can range anywhere from $2,000 to over $4,000!! When you live on a very tight budget it can be rough.

Every year the Lord has provided that money for us in one way or another and we have always been able to pay what we owe, sometimes through the payment plan, but always paid! That's  important to us to honor that debt.

Well this year we were a little nervous about the taxes. We knew God was going to take care of it for us, but just couldn't see how in any way. And this is where the Lord taught me some pretty neat things. If you have been reading along with my blog you know back in December I had a slight stroke. With that stroke came lots of medical bills, and since we are some of the many who do not have health insurance we knew paying those bills off was going to take time. We would just tighten our belts a little bit and get the job done. But then it hit us, there would also be taxes on top of those bills. OUCH!!

So we did what almost everyone does, or should do, we prayed! We prayed hard! No matter how hard we looked over the money and the budget we just could not see where the money was going to come from. Paying any of those bills off was going to be hard and long!! And we let our humanness get in the way and worried some. Ugh! But we continued praying, even if in a little less belief, that it would be done. "Oh ye of little faith" could have been our slogan for a few weeks.

That's when God chose to remind us of just how BIG He really is! We received a letter from the hospital that just about shocked us. My entire hospital bill was paid for. All of it!! I'm not allowed to say how, but let me tell you it was nothing short of a miracle.

But it gets even better. My husband found out about a man who does taxes near us that we had never used before. We talked about it and decided we should have some fresh eyes go over our numbers this year. He had all the info for less than two weeks and called us to let us know he had our forms ready. I hate to admit that Rick went in with a little fear and trepidation! How many thousands this year to the federal government? How many hundreds to the state?

He came home that night and chit chatted about a few things making me wonder if he was just hiding the bad news from me. Then he let me know the final numbers. We were going to owe the state $92. I was shocked after the number in previous years came close to being $1,000! He said later my mouth actually did fall open when he told me.

Then he pulled out the form with the federal return. He looked and hemmed and hawed over finding the numbers. And he said, "Well the total for the federal taxes is $798." I almost squealed and then he stopped me. He said the $798 was what the federal government was refunding us! Yes, I said refund!! All that could come out of my mouth was Praise God!

It's been nine years since we had any kind of a refund. God really did do something BIG this year for us and yes, I am loving our taxes!! I am also so thankful to a Lord who does not forget us and does provide in ways that we never, ever suspect!

So how do you feel about your taxes? Better yet, how do you feel about a God who never lets us down?

Have Cold, Will Stay At Home

This time of year is always rough on me. It seems like I always have an annual bought of bronchitis or worse. It just seems inevitable. The changes in the weather with the cold and hot and in between, the extra wind that comes in Spring, well it all adds up and wreaks havoc on my immune system.  So far this year I have avoided getting it, but a cold or something has settled in. You know, that scratchy soar throat, aches, chills and yep, the fever. Ugh!!

I have made some great changes in my health this year. Having a stroke in December really helped me do that. Changes were vital! Some of those changes involved being more faithful in taking vitamins and extra minerals. I hate to admit it, but I am awful about taking pills. I always have been. It's not the problem some have of actually swallowing them. I can do that just fine. It's the just taking them part. I hate taking pills. Even now that I have been faithful for over 2 months in remembering them everyday I still hate it. Each morning it seems like it is a mountain of things I pop in my mouth, all with a funny taste if they linger on my tongue too long. But, and there always seems to be one, I have noticed a big difference in my health since I have been using these extra vitamins and minerals. I almost hate to admit it, but I guess the experts are right, taking them is good for you.

Alas though, even with the extra umph in my system there seems to be something happening. I feel miserable! Just one of those feelings you get when you know you are getting sick and you wish there was some magical wave of a wand that would take it away (or some magical pill!). You just want to curl up on the couch and do nothing till it passes. Unfortunately life does not allow that. The whole world does not stop just because you get sick. I am however, not going anywhere today. I am staying home and going to fight this off. The old drink plenty of liquids and get plenty of rest routine seems quite appropriate right now.

Oh I can't stop everything in my life. There is still some light cleaning I need to do, some cooking and a few other little things. But the rest can wait. I think that is one thing that having a stroke has done for me. It has shown me that there are a lot less really important things in life than I thought. A lot of the stuff in my life is pretty little in the grand scheme of things.

Now does anyone have a good recipe for chicken noodle soup???

Crayola's First "Inside the Crayon Box" Chat

If you missed the live chat with Lisa Loeb brought to us by Crayola, you can watch it HERE! MyBlogSpark has been kind enough to share the video of this chat. Lisa is best-known for her number one hit "Stay (I Missed You)". Sh had some ideas on helping your children develop their creativity and shared a lot of her own personal stories from growing up and being creative and developing it in her children.

Creativity was something I personally never struggled with. It was just a normal part of my life growing up. Living in the country and having to do a lot for ourselves from an early age, I and my brothers learned to do a lot of different things on our own that expressed who we were as individuals.  Each one of us developed in a different way and clearly from our personalities. None of us were formally taught to be creative until we were much older and took art classes in school. We were never allowed to run a muck, but our parents let us build things from Match Box and Hot Wheels car tracks and landscapes on giant sheets of cardboard to wooden forts and tree houses. I remember learning to use all kinds of tools as a child and being given left over wood to make things. All kinds of markers, pens crayons and more were around for us and Mom often let me get into her fabric stash to make my own Barbie clothes. That's how I learned to sew. Oh and it was even on an old treadle machine. Great memories for me!

Creativity is important, and although I don't think we have to be as structured with it as some do, I do think we need to encourage our children in this area. Both of my boys have their own style and my husband and I have helped them do their own thing. It's kinda sad to think that many parents don't do that for their kids.

Have fun watching the video and getting inspired to develop creativity in your children or even your grand children! May I Have Some Cheese To Go With My Whine?!

Adjusting is something I have to admit I am not always the best at doing. I love excitement and doing new things, but when those new things are over and the excitement dies down I enjoy going home to comfort and familiarity! That's why I am really having trouble adjusting to new things right now computer-wise.

I'm sure many of you have purchased a new computer or had revamps done to old ones. It's pretty common that anything electronic either breaks down or needs tweaking and updates. Our computer needed just that. Well, actually it needed mush more. The hard drive crashed. For years when I heard that from someone else my hear just sunk knowing what they must have been going through, but yet still appreciating the fact that I was not in the middle of it myself. I could go home and get on my old familiar machine and click away to my heart's content.

No heart's content right now, at least computer-wise. With a crashed hard drive there is nothing. Nada! Zilcho! It just sits there and looks at you and collects dust. So we got a second computer and a new hard drive on our old one in hopes that we could avoid this again in the future (3 adults using one computer is rough!). All the files were safely retrieved, but things just aren't what they used to be. I have the new computer (actually a re-built one new to me) and my husband has the old one. Things have been transferred over to mine, somewhere. I can't find a thing and all my familiar programs I have used for years are not here yet because I haven't had a chance to download them all. You know how long that can take. Ugh! Pictures, cartoons, articles, even my favorites list is not to be found. It's like going on a scavenger hunt and not knowing the rules while I am hunting.

I will not say that I am computer illiterate. I do know a thing or two, but to say I can just zip around, click here and there and WALLA, there is what I need, no way! Even simple things right now are just giving me a major headache and desires to wish back my old life on my old computer. It's tough right now. Even the mouse is different. I think you can understand that for sure. You just get familiar with how it feels in your hand without even looking at it. Sigh!

And yet through all this whining I have to say that I am blessed. Yep, really blessed. I have a computer! I could be without one. Yes, it is going to take me while to adjust to it. Yes, I am having trouble finding things. Yes this new mouse just feels awkward. But I HAVE a computer and I HAVE all my files. Right now I could be out a lot by not having one or having lost everything on the hard drive.

It is way too easy for me and a lot of you to focus on all the gunk that happens in our lives and to forget that even in the middle of the gunk we are still terribly blessed people. We all have so much, even those of us who live on very little. Blessings abound each and every day even when we don't see them or when we choose to ignore them. Oh I pray that I am never doing the latter of those two! Having to adjust to a new computer is really not a big deal in the grand scheme of things. It's just a tiny little thing in day to day life.

So here I sit adjusting to this new humming machine that can do so much for my life and my family and enjoying the fact that I can still write posts on my blog, talk to my friends on different sites, fly a couple of angry birds through the air at some pigs and watch some funny videos from time to time. I guess I don't need that cheese after all. How bout you?
